Introduction
Laura Vaughan is gaining a
reputation as Australia’s
most exciting viola da gamba
and lirone player of the rising generation and has
had a distinguished list of teachers including Wieland
Kuijken, Philippe Pierlot,
Miriam Morris and Anneke Pols. Following her return to Australia from studies at the Royal Conservatory
of The Hague in 2004, she has established a busy schedule of teaching and
performing from her base in Melbourne and
performs a wide range of solo and chamber repertoire across Australia, Europe and the United States. Passionate about the sound world of the
viol, Laura is committed to bringing this exquisite repertoire to audiences
around the world.
Recent
engagements have included recitals at the Holywell
Room in Oxford,
solo performances with Roy Goodman for Auckland Philharmonia
and for Musica Viva as well as performances with the Australian
Brandenburg Orchestra and Pinchgut Opera Company. As Australia’s only player of
the rare lirone, Laura has also recently recorded a
country and western track with artist Stephen Brady – probably a world
first!
Laura has performed in many major
festivals such as the Utrecht Early Music Festival, the Festival d’Aix-en-provence, Adelaide and Melbourne Festivals and records
regularly for ABC Classic FM as a soloist and chamber musician. Laura performs
with numerous ensembles such as Consort Eclectus,
Elysium Ensemble, E21, Astra, the Australian
Brandenburg Orchestra, Academia Arcadia, Project 1600, La Compañia,
Past Echoes, Pinchgut Opera, the Auckland Philharmonia, Melbourne Bach
Choir, viol duo Convivio with Miriam Morris, the
Victorian State Orchestra, Opera Australia and the exciting new trio Latitude
